THE HISTORY OF SLENDER BATH®

In the beautiful little town of Martinsville, Indiana, you will find a prolific history of the world’s most potent mineral waters located in underground springs. Even though these springs are no longer in use, the town is still known as the "City of Mineral Water." At the turn of the century 13 lavish health resorts, spas and sanitariums flourished due to the medicinal values found in these waters.

In 1882, a team of drillers looking for natural gas deposits struck what they thought was oil at 1,300 feet below the earth’s surface. Later laboratory findings at Indiana University revealed that this "oil" was actually water composed of an unusually rich blend of minerals! The chemical analysis confirmed the water’s inherent medicinal and therapeutic properties. The drillers decided to recapture their investment by building a health resort right over the area where the richest and most potent underground waters flowed.

So, in 1884, Home Lawn Mineral Springs Health Resort, later known as Diamondhead Health Resort, opened its doors. It was built for the primary purpose of providing hydrotherapy to assist those with skin and other health related conditions. Dr. Joseph Gibbs, M.D. headed its medical and dietary staff from 1940 until closing. Dr. Gibbs was one of the first physicians in the country that was allowed to practice both conventional and complimentary medicine at a major health facility. His reputation and the history of the waters were instrumental in the success of getting hospitals, doctors, and clinics to send their patients for treatments developed around the mineral bath soaks and sound dietary practices.

People traveled from all over Canada and the United States to stay for weeks at a time to take the baths. Older guests who had been going there for over 40 years insisted the mineral baths were responsible for their vitality and youthful looking skin. It was the success of the mineral baths that finally prompted the development of Slender Bath, the first product to be bottled and sold to those unable to visit Diamondhead. The Slender Bath formulation used today is a concentration of the same makeup as the original mineral waters used by Diamondhead for over 85 years.

In 1970, Diamondhead Health Resort first gained national attention when the media reported the life stories of those guests who had been traveling to Diamondhead for so long. These guests traveled to Diamondhead four to seven times a year for skin tightening and inch loss. By soaking in the warm mineral waters, guest experienced substantial inch loss without having to lose weight. The media dubbed these mineral soaks, "Slender Baths."

After the national media reported the many Diamondhead Slender Bath successes, the bath halls became backed up for months, and appointments were being made six months in advance. It was at this time medical staff members felt they could produce a Slender Bath concentrate based on the elements found in the underground mineral springs. This would allow those unable to travel to Diamondhead Health Resort to experience Slender Baths in the privacy of their own bathtub.

After researchers developed the right combination of components for the concentrated formula, they decided to established a research protocol which included measuring patients before taking the new Slender Bath concentrate soak, and again an hour after the soak. Without using the water from the underground springs, the guests could add eight ounces of the new Slender Bath concentrate to a regular tub soak and experience the same benefits as those obtained from the underground springs. It was the tightness of the skin and not any weight loss that accounted for the measured difference. In areas like the abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, and arms and even in the neck and chin line, the improved appearance was very noticeable, even after the first soak. These soaks became known as "Slender Baths." Since 1970, Diamondhead formulations have been used by hundreds of thousands of people of all ages and shapes.

Although the Diamondhead Health Resort has since closed, the secrets found in its mineral waters are still alive in every bottle of Slender Bath concentrate. Note: You may add Slender Bath to a regular bath tub or a whirlpool. However, a hot tub with a filter will filter out essential minerals.
